From a single small store opened in Reading, PA over 75 years ago, Boscov's Department Store has evolved into the largest family owned department store chain in the country. Throughout the last half of the last century, Boscov's established itself as a rewarding and fun place to shop under the dynamic leadership of Al Boscov and his brother-in-law, Ed Lakin. Al became known far and wide for his flair for merchandising – having a sixth sense for what merchandise customers wanted and finding ways to give it to them at prices that truly delighted. At the same time, Ed Lakin was concentrating on building the supporting systems and processes that were needed for a company experiencing sound, steady growth.

As the last century drew to a close, Al and Ed began transitioning to the next generation of management. Although both Al and Ed are still actively involved in their passion – making sure that Boscov's continues to be a great place to shop, today the company is led by Ken Lakin, Chairman, and Burt Kreiger, President.
Ken and Burt have been instrumental in expanding the geographic area in which Boscov's operates while remaining committed to the fundamental shopping concepts that have made Boscov's popular for generations of shoppers.
They have also been champions of efforts to make Boscov's Online the same great shopping destination as Boscov's traditional stores.
