“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” II Timothy 3:16-17
The Bible is not an ordinary book. It is the only revelation of God’s nature and will; it alone is “profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and instruction in righteous” (2 Tim. 3:16).
Who should be reading the bible?
KINGS (Deuteronomy 17:18-20) - FAMILIES (2 Timothy 3:15) - GROUPS OF PEOPLE (Nehemiah 8:1-3,8,18;) - INDIVIDUALS (Psalm 119:11)
There are NO exceptions!
"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 4:12
I have strengthened my relationship with God through reading and studying His Word! Reading the Scriptures is our key path for knowing and serving God. In a genuine, loving relationship with God, His Word fills our hearts and our homes (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." Psalms 119:105
We should read our bibles daily! The believers who read it daily are better prepared spiritually for the journey ahead.
Daily Bible reading and Bible study are not the same activity. In fact, you should avoid mixing the two. As you read the Bible, keep a journal handy and jot down questions, ideas and interests for further study as they arise. Then set aside time once per week for in-depth study.
As you read God’s Word, make short notes in a journal or in the margins of your Bible. Underline and memorize the verses that have special meaning for you. Talk about what you have read with your spouse or a friend. It is important to share what the Lord is showing you! Pay attention to the way God will use what you have read to help someone else!
His Word will help you in the face of temptation and challenges to your faith. Scripture is the power and importance of what is important in life...why we do things, how we can do things right, and what we need to change to make our life better.
"...Thy word is truth."
John 17:17God’s Word is the source of spiritual life.
If we desire God's word with all our heart and soul, we will grow! (1 Peter 2:2)
Faith is strengthened through committment to the Word. (Romans 10:17)
Making an intentional effort to engulf your mind with God's Word on a daily basis will help you to combat temptation. This commitment to the scripture will bring about a discipline in your life that will enlighten your soul with personal PURITY.
Scripture gives us guidance - In 2 Timothy 3:16 Paul highlights the four types of guidance found in the Scriptures: teaching (what is true?), rebuking (what is wrong with me?), correcting (how can I straighten out what is wrong with me?), and instruction in righteousness (how can I live routinely in the will of God?).
Our walk with God needs to be strong. In order to impact the lives of others, we need to be equipped with the guidance of the scriptures (2 Timothy 3:17)
Our lives seem to be so busy that finding time to read and study the Bible can be a challenge. Satan will try every trick he can to stop us from having fellowship time with God through the Scriptures.
